Travel and Leisure
(airlines, ships, maps, and more)

SC Tourism -- A quick tour of some of scenic South Carolina's treasures, waterfalls, Charleston, and much more.

Chapin, SC A great little town, the Capital of Lake Murray --- half way from the mountains to the sea. Site designed and maintained by Mayor Stan, yes, the real Mayor!

1Travel ONE TRAVEL, is a pretty good site for finding left-over seats at big discounts, on several different airlines. They will allow you to choose cities, and they will e-mail you when a bargain comes up "from you city to that city". A 4 day weekend trip to Paris was only $269 RT the other day. On a major brand name airline. So you can find some good stuff playing around with this site.

Road Map (5) This is a great site... works faster than some map sites I have tried. Put in your street address, city and zip code, and it will draw a street map to your house, and put an "X" on your house! You can then print the map and use it to find friends, or businesses. There is a link called "Travel Directions". By putting in your address and then the destination, it will draw a map for you, then give you detailed driving instructions from your address to the destination. Kind of awesome, isn't it?

City Guide (5) Find YOUR city or any city, and get a home page for that city..... with links to all the activities in town.

Columbia, SC This is our home town, and the graphic design on this home page great and there are many links to explore Columbia. There may be a better home page for Columbia somewhere, but the art work probably won't be as dramatic.

Left Over Air Line Tickets. (3) A sort of on-line auction of unsold air line tickets, for those who really want to work hard for a bargain. If this interests you, also try Travel Auction.

Delta Air Lines (5) Choose "Flight Schedules" and enjoy the fun of planning your trip. This amazing site will let you select cities, days of the week, times of departure, and then almost instantly give you all the routes, showing the origin and destinations in black, and the intermediate stops in red. All times, including the entire trip time are shown. This is like having a travel agent in your computer! Give it a try to see the possibilities.

Discounted Hotel Weekend Packages (3.5) A hotel-finder service featuring discounted weekend rates and some other features.

Passport Applications (4) This is an official US Government site, you can download the application forms for passports and it provides information about how to apply and what to expect.

Passport Services (3) This site is a private company that will help you get prompt renewal of your passport, or perhaps apply for a new one. They offer to cut through government red tape.

National Parks Information (3) Thinking of visiting a National Park this summer? You might want to check out this site.

Myrtle Beach Condos A family owns 28 condos in the Kingston Plantation, and they will rent them directly to persons who inquire via the web site. The condos are in several building types, two story and high rise. A complete, colorful, and detailed web site. The owners said they stayed there once, fell in love with the place, and eventually bought 28 condos in the various projects with rentals in mind. It really is one of the nicest places to stay in North Myrtle Beach. A gate guarded community on the ocean with just about everything from fine food to sports. Prices vary week to week, year round, but look very reasonable for the area and for this premium location.

Columbia, SC -- All About Our Town. This is a pretty complete home page for our town. You can change the page to your town, just look for the link on the left of the home page... it is called "local city guide".

Adventure! (5) Michael Modzelewski, author, traveler, speaker (and friend) has posted his own home page. You have to see this one, it has won over 85 major awards, and the count is climbing every week! Share the adventure!

Water Ski (3) Knee board or skis, this is a site with resources for fun on the water.

Myrtle Beach Live! (4) The official site for Myrtle Beach, with links to shows, show-times, lodging, special events, golf, and just about anything else. Can 4 million visitors a year be wrong? There is a lot to do in Myrtle Beach, this site might help you get organized for maximum fun.

Bermuda (5) a neat home page covering all aspects of visiting Bermuda, and much more. This one is a winner, and nice photos too.

Charleston, SC (5) one of the world's finest cities, Charleston welcomes millions of tourists each year. This site offers real help on accommodations and EVENTS (5) The Event page is organized by month, and is fantastically well done. Suitable for printing as your own personal guide for the month of you plan to visit. Includes phone numbers and good descriptions of the art exhibits or other festivals.

RV-USA (4) A great looking home page for the RV and outdoor camping fan. Covers everything from camping spots to equipment.

Restaurant Row This clever site allows you to put in your zip code and read about 30 to 50 restaurants in the general area. I was impressed at the list for my personal zip code, it covered all the better known places, and the reviews were interesting. It would be a major help for someone visiting the area. The site also gives phone numbers and driving directions to each listed restaurant. It claims to be the World's Largest Dining Guide. It could be true.

Travelocity driving maps These are not, perhaps, the best maps, but they are free and the driving directions are pretty good. Often this site will get the job done (but I have seen some errors using their maps and they are not "airport friendly"). Special feature includes an aerial photo of the same area of map that comes up with your normal street map criteria. Amazing technology ! Recently I was able to find the exact building on the aerial map that was my destination. It was a lumber yard, and the piles of lumber were visible in the photo.

Mapblast ! This is a very good mapping system, however it now requires a registration (but at least the registration is still free). I recently tried to get driving directions from a major city airport to a particular business -- and found that Mapblast was by far the best of the on-line maps I tried. And the only one that was accurate. It was also airport-friendly -- helps you select the right airport if the airport is the start of your trip, and then maps accurately from there. Perfect when using rental cars picked up at airports.

MapQuest A map and driving directions website that has been popular for a number of years. The site offers other features as well, such as travel deals, and weekend getaways.
