Truss and Wall Panel Engineering Opportunities

The rapid expansion of Boozer Lumber's component division has created a need for skilled associates in several special areas. One of these is roof truss and wall panel engineers. While experience in our industry is a plus, we will train applicants with some experience in related fields -- or who have the appropriate aptitude. If you are interested in applying for a position in our engineering department, please read the description below, then fill out an on-line application

ON LINE APPLICATION

Those engineer's already familiar with the component industry will know this position means using state of the art computers to take customer blueprints and turn them into shop drawings with cutting lists and layouts. These lists then go to our modern shops for final processing and assembly into components. Those not familiar with our industry should know that this work is akin to CAD drawing, but is done with specially designed software provided by MITEK, one of the leading roof truss plate suppliers. We have the newest model computers by Dell (replaced in June 2003 with even faster Dell units), all with 17" or larger high resolution monitors.

Why consider this opportunity?
First, we are a fifty-seven year old company with a very bright future due to an expansion program now underway. We recently completed one of the largest and most modern roof truss plants in the world. Working for Boozer is an opportunity to be a part of something important in the history of wood building technology. We will soon be expanding and remodeling our wall panel division creating another state of the art facility.

How do I get more information?
The best way is to fill out an on-line application at  Boozer Lumber jobs. You may also e-mail your resume to the Chairman of the company, Dale Boozer , or you can call 1- and leave a message at extension 110. Our company HR Director, Dale Berry, is in charge of the hiring process, which includes pre-interview computer testing, in-person interviews and other related matters. All on-line applications go directly to his desk.

What are the working conditions for engineering jobs?
The office is large, by industry standards, with 17 engineers and related assistants. The office is new, and very clean and neat, with every imaginable technical device -- laser printers, large scale laser plotters, large scale blue print copy machines, linking management software, NT network, UNIX network, UPS on every device, and so on. Capital investment is large, per employee, and every effort is made to keep the entire process at the highest state of the art.

Understanding the actual work environment is important, since engineering is serious business. The environment is quiet and requires a person who is adaptive to working alone in a cubical with minimal supervision once trained. Candidates should understand that there are no phones or personal e-mail in these work stations. The WWW is not available at all work stations, and signing a statement of company policy on personal use of the WWW (when and where available) is required.

The office is located in Columbia, SC, a very desirable location. Pleasant climate, lots of nearby recreation, and a large university are just a few of the attractions. Living expenses are lower than most parts of the USA, and under some circumstances we may help pay relocation expenses.

What are the pay and benefits?
The pay will be commensurate with initial skills, and how rapidly the new team member can make a contribution. But pay is excellent, we want the best, and will reward performance. The company has :

  1. A profit sharing plan
  2. A 401-K plan, allowing employees to contribute -- generous company match
  3. (Ours is a safe-harbor plan with instant vesting in the company match money).
  4. Health insurance, quality plan, options to add dependents
  5. Extra and extended benefits offered at a small charge, such as dental insurance , disability insurance, and life insurance
  6. Paid vacations, ranging up to three weeks with longevity
  7. Paid holidays, five a year, plus a "personal day" = 6 paid days
  8. Convenient paved parking for all staff
  9. Nearby restaurants for lunch
  10. Payroll is automated, including options for direct deposit

And, that's not all ! As proof of good working conditions and wages, we have some staff with 30 years with the company, some with 20 years, and a great many with 10 years of service. We are a family owned company, and plan to remain that way. Read "About Us" on the home page to find out more.
